Quiltcon 2024- Jacquie Gering from Moda Lissa

A lecture that I attended at Quiltcon that I cannot stop thinking about is the one by Jacquie Gering. I should have known there was going to be something specail happening in that room, just by the size of the line. The line went round and round through every nook and cranny of the convention center. They even had to open a satellite ballroom area at the hotel next door to hold everyone. It was so inspiring and a therapy session on why we quilt.

I have known of Jackie for many years but had to do a little google ...

Fun While It Lasted from The Snarky Quilter

Here’s yet another “classic” post from 2016. You guessed it, I’m still on vacation. This post is especially pertinent as I have just dropped my Modern Quilt Guild membership. I don’t know why it took me so long. Maybe I kept hoping the direction would swing away from all the patterns.

With QuiltCon West underway in California it seems a good time to declare that I am over modern quilting, as defined by current modern quilt practitioners. Back in 2012 I had high hopes for a bolder, less pretty, more personally defined approach to quilting. I read ...

Making my cicada quilt, Cicadence, step by step from Splendiferous

Cicadence, 2020, 24 x 24 inches

Here’s what I started with:  packet with fat quarter of this fabric, and a sheet inside with the rules.  Rules: must use recognizable amount of challenge fabric, no bigger than 24 x 24, and must have a wing in it somewhere.  The challenge was supposed to be for 2020, but we know how that went.  I had already started it, so I kept going, and hid the finished quilt for almost an entire year.  Since it was made in 2020, I had no idea about Brood X hatching this year, and what a ...

Jenny Anydots from Splendiferous

A quilt shop about an hour and 45 minutes north of me hosts an annual fabric challenge, with gift certificates to the store as prizes.  Here’s the challenge packet.  Must use Kaffe Fassett Tiddlywinks fabric in blue, finish 24" square or smaller, and have a face on it

Started with cat photo, and edited in photoshop to have smaller value range.  Printed out grayscale photo to 24" square size on several sheets of paper, and taped together.

selected fabrics and arranged in value order.  All Kaffe Fassett.

I’m Now Post Modern from The Snarky Quilter

For many years I’ve been a member of The Modern Quilt Guild, and was part of a now defunct local modern quilt group. I’ve watched a movement that began about 2009 go national in a big way; capture the quilt … Continue reading

Quilt Con 2022 Here I Come

I am honored to be a member the Quilt Con 2022 teaching faculty.  I am excited to have this opportunity to teach what I love, machine quilting on a domestic machine.

Words We Need from Gwen's Quilts

The QuiltCon Charity Challenge is one of the Modern Quilt Guild‘s largest-scale charity projects. Guilds and individual member groups create quilts according to challenge guidelines and after they are displayed at QuiltCon they are donated to the group’s charity of choice. For the 2020 show, groups were challenged to create quilts using text with a palette of grayscale. The vast majority of the quilts incorporated words of encouragement, hope and inspiration. Words we need right now. So I will share these quilts with you in the hopes they will lift you up, bring a smile, and remind you ...

Modern Classic from Leftovers (Between the Blinds) from Sew Sunshine

This is the MQG modern classic makeover pattern by Diana Vandeyar called "Oblique" for the Feb 2017 issue.
I originally made the Chess on the Steps by Krista Hennebury. I named mine 'Strength and Beauty' HERE

I thought I could use additional fabrics in the composition with the specific ones the MQG listed but I don't think that is what they wanted. So with lots of leftovers I decided to see if I had enough fabric left to make another quilt.

I think I want to call mine "Between the Blinds"

2019 - A Fruitful YearIs it possible I made all these quilts in... from Living Water Quilter

2019 - A Fruitful Year

Is it possible I made all these quilts in 2019?!  A year for me is 10 months. I don’t sew in November and December.  I have been a busy bee!

Let’s take a gallery tour.

1) I see a small theme of light backgrounds in some Island Batik Ambassador projects.

2) These smaller projects were fun first-time techniques.

3) Geese Gone Wild made the priemer issue of Modern Monthly, an online magazine published by the Modern Quilt Guild.

4) Mini art quilts are fun between big projects.

5)  It’s also been a year ...
